Donald Trump has become the latest in a long, depressing line of high profile Americans to articulate an insight into British society that springs from their fevered imagination or desired world view, rather than from any concrete reality that the those of us who are fortunate enough to live here recognise.
Britain’s not perfect by any means, but the city of Birmingham is not and never has been an Islamic Caliphate, nor are there any areas of London into which our police are afraid to venture because of radicalisation. It’s enormously tempting to write a long post mocking the odious Trump and all those ill-informed morons who believe what he has to say, but I really do have better things to do with my time.
However, if you’re one of those who considers that Trump ought to be banned from visiting Britain, along with others like the Westboro Baptist Church and the Ku Klux Klan, you can petition the UK Parliament here with 300,000 others, as I’ve just done.
