A few nights ago, I was delighted to talk once more with my friend Captain Robert Fore, the brave man who rescued the entire crew of The Primrose from certain death after their ship had run aground on a reef off North Sentinel Island in 1981. Aside from anything else, we discussed our shared desire to speak more of North Sentinel Island, an undertaking that I’d been unable to continue with after becoming ill, so I very much hope I’ll be able to resurrect this in some form in the not-too-distant future.
I’m given some cause for optimism here, not just because of Captain Fore’s enthusiasm and seemingly endless indulgence in these matters, but also because I’ve applied myself as best I can to the essay or short study I mentioned in a previous post and I would say I’m around halfway there, which is a huge improvement on my other efforts to write in recent times.

A people that Christians and other self-righteous people would love to convert to their ways of life, and reduce a proud self-sufficient people to the ruin that all indigenous peoples seem to suffer.

Just one of the many fascinating aspects of the people of North Sentinel Island is the fact that the Indian government has unsurprisingly resigned itself to the fact that none of the islanders responsible for killing fishermen in recent times will ever be brought to trial, contrary to the desire of some of the grieving relatives of those killed, simply because the problems involved in such an undertaking are virtually insurmountable.
With this in mind, the people of the island pose a fascinating conundrum, because many but not all religions seek converts and many religious people see it as their duty to convert the heathen, wherever he or she might reside. I cannot see how on Earth it would be possible to convert any of the islanders without killing many of them in the process, if only by inadvertently introducing them to diseases, so as killing is forbidden, then these ‘heathens’ will have to be left to continue with their ungodly ways for as long as they live.
In other words, North Sentinel Island Heathens 1 – Fanatical Christians 0.
