The Cheerful Skies

By way of concluding his Grand Tour of South America, my son Jack saw in the New Year at a party on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana beach, while I think the photograph above is as good an example of Virgil’s “cheerful skies” as any I’ve ever seen. Let’s hope it’s a propitious omen for us all over the coming twelve months, so I’ll follow Jack’s example and I’ll drink to that!

I have to say that 2015 has not got off to a particularly good start at all, despite my initial optimism. Aside from any other considerations, I made the hideous mistake a few minutes ago of looking at this site’s history in 2014 from the perspective of Word Press. The top site it recommended for me to join or follow was, but short of being pointed towards a site containing kiddy porn, I can’t think of anything I’m less interested in than “Academic Life – Resources for aspiring (and published) academics”.

As the genius Mark Twain once observed “Sometimes too much to drink is barely enough”, and tonight is proving to be one of those sometimes.
